Citings of a Confused Mind!

Everyone has some or the other dream or aspiration to be successful in one’s chosen field. But only some are able to make it and transform their dreams into realities. May be these are the ones who are focused on their goal, know what they exactly want from life and are resolute in their determination about their future aspirations.

There are some who are quite confused about what the future holds for them and what goals they exactly want to pursue. Should I do this or should I do that? Is this what I want to do? Is this the only thing I want to do or there are many more things I can do? You think I would like to do that then your mind just wanders of like a wanderer to something else and so on. You then think that if by some quirk of fate a miracle happens and you suddenly see your goal materializing in front of your eyes .You feel elated at your new found discovery, you jump with excitement that you have finally found the aim of your life and no one can stop you from achieving it, but then you see it dwindling, as you realize that they were just your wild imaginations and nothing else, you then drown yourself into an abysmal ocean of disappointment and dejection. Your mind keeps vacillating between what to do and what not to do.

You ponder over the matter and then approach a group of people whom you consider as your friends. They have different opinions on the same matter (Naturally how can different minds think alike? If God had made it that way then wouldn’t have humans been just mental clones of each other?). Ok coming back to the point they try and help you, advise you to view things in a different perspective, approach it in different manner, give their own examples and try and show you the right direction. But at the end of the day suppose you have 10 friends then think… think…..they have shown you 10 different directions. You find yourself at crossroads with 10 different directions to choose from! Phew! You pull your hair in exasperation and realize that you have committed the greatest blunder by asking them to show you the right way! But then it wasn’t their fault after all, you think, and that they were just trying to help you! At the same time you are in awe and appreciate the confidence they display, the intelligence with which they are able to take such firm one-to-one decisions and not a confused soul like you, who has to deliberate over every other matter! You wonder that how can a person be so firm headed and resolve issues so effortlessly. The realization dawns on you that you are still at the first step of a long flight of stairs while your friends have already started their journey because they know where they are headed and where they wish to go!

Enough is enough you feel! Now you make up your mind, you resolve that you will no longer allow yourself to be colossal dunce, you will no longer keep lamenting over petty issues, you too will try and take firm decisions and brandish all thoughts which try to deviate you from your aim! However subconsciously you still have no idea for what you are headed. Confidence, Optimism, Ambition are aliens whom you hesitate to be friends with!

But somewhere somehow an angelic voice guides and motivates you to put the first step forward, it tries to drive you towards enlightenment! You pinch yourself and see whether these are imaginations hovering over you again, but then ouch! You feel the pain and realize it is reality! You don’t know the origin of this divine call and then try going on an expedition of sorts to find out if it is somewhere from the surroundings or perhaps God! No no, you try and concentrate hard to stalk its origin which has attempted to transform the grotesque picture of disappointment and failure into a beautiful landscape, the flowing rivers of which symbolize the new vigor gushing inside you, the mountains depicting the new heights you are about to scale, the greenery around symbolizing the freshness with which you will begin the journey, you feel you are born again! You finally find out the originator of this voice, it is from nowhere but the voice of your soul, your inner self which has driven you out from self-exile. You feel that you have finally attained enlightenment just as Lord Buddha had attained under the Bodh Gaya tree! What was going on at the back of your head has finally come in front of your eyes!

But then it is only the beginning, there is still a long way to go, many hurdles to cross before reaching the destination. However it goes without saying that if your mind has shown you your goal, it will lead you and guide you through it. One has to just follow his mind and heart and then there is no stopping, for you to reach your ultimate destination!

Too gud roops!! phod dala.... Wat language, wat imagination.... kya baat hai!! wah wah!!

cmin bak.....I think what you have said is true of everyone...there is no one who is absolutely sure of what he or she wants to do.... most often, it is the circumstances which drive a person in a certain direction....
By circumstances I mean everything like parents, relatives, contemporary fads etc etc

The best part is most people take a leap of faith....They take a decision and sincerely pray to god it turns out good...U see, we are all equally blind when it comes to our future...
Our true calling can come anytime...most people are not lucky enough to meet it in their entire lifetime...

But I think u have made ur post cryptic... I would really like you to mention what is that true calling that you have found :)

hehe I have not yet found my true calling I'm still in the middle stage of my article but I think that whenever I find one it would be on similar lines!

This post is very true to its title..
Citings of a Confused Mind. :)

In a sense, it reflects the thought process of many of us. Going through the motions everyday...unsure of why we are doing what we are doing. And what should we be doing next.

To paraphrase something from a very inpirational address by Steve Jobs, you must trust that the "Dots will connect"

We are incapable of connecting the dots looking forward, we can only do so looking behind.
It's about following your heart and having trust - that our choice is right and somehow, it'll work out...

I totally agree with you. Everyone is confused about what they wish to achieve. You mention of friends being cool and composed when it comes to taking descisions, but i would put it this way: "Our friends seem to be cool and composed because they are suggesting descisions for us!" Its easy advising people, but when you are in the same situation, you would still look out for second & third opinion (could be even more!).
Innovative topic!

Mon chère amie, you are in the wrong profession! You should been either a pedagogue or a counselor. Your innate skills to be able to put forward the most complex of though processes in the most simplest of manners is simply remarkable! Although at times, the language can get a bit tedious, (which sounds hypocritical coming from me, but then guess I never have read my own blogs :P), it is still a most thought provoking and intuitive piece. Keep up the good work!

Remember, we are known neither by the consequences around us, nor by the company that we keep; we are known by our actions and what we make out of them.

@Neeraj:Ya knowing the true calling and understanding that whether our choice is right or wrong takes ages!So the ones who learn it early are the lucky ones!

@kris:Maybe u are right givin advice is much easier than implementing it ourselves! We always tend to be a little lenient towards others than ourselves!

@reddy:thanks reddy!ya it is true that we are known by our actions and sensible beings are those that don't allow undesirable things to influence them.Hey reddy I have kept the language quite simple this time I guess!

wow..nice post...As rajesh pointed out...what imagination, what language...kya analogy nikala hai tune life aur nature ka..very impressive..i feel that taking decisions is to do with your upbringing, the way you have been moulded as a child, the values that have been inculcated in you. Priority also plays a crucial role. Most of our decisions are based on how our decision affect others then us. Also, as Kris rightly pointed out, it is easy to preach but difficult to practice the same.

hmmm..decisive post a confusing debacle..good one..what we are taught is someone else's experience which has started n ended..what we need to learn is from our own experience which has only started and we don't know the end..that's why experience is the best teacher..but not at the present moment, but in the life-long journey..keep it up..

Your style of writing this post is quite different. I could feel the despondency and frustration in every line. In fact, the content is quite identical to the title - confusing!
You have mirrored the thoughts of so many confused people perfectly!
However, I am a firm believer in the dictum - "Whatever happens, happens for the best".

Roopali said...

@mahesh:Taking decisions is only to some extent dependent on the upbringing it is more to do with what u want with life what ur hopes and aspirations are!

@Shreedhar:Hey I didn't get any call re!Was waiting for it eagerly!haha!

@Vinod:ya experience is the best teacher but some things have to be taken with one's own discretion sometimes which needs thinking!

@Adi:Ya it is a tribute to all confused souls who just need the right direction to go and then lot of things also depend on luck!

I agree with kris. It's extremely easy to advise anyone on anything but "khud pe aata hai to pata chalta hai";-))

How many friends do you know, who honestly, have a clear vision or have set a goal as to what exactly to do with this life? All of us are still learning and searching for our goals and aims:-)

And,mujhe ye post bahut confusing laga as adi said...All the confusion in your mind has been brought to the fore through this post...But great attempt and a novel topic to explore...

Way to go,roops!!!

We always want to do what everyone is doing. On top of that, the fierce competition which lets us down. We feel we are not going on par with the mob. Plus, peer pressure, different opinions from different people... leave us totally confused.

Well described! Good going...
